"Rural, well-kept campsite situated on the river Usk. Small-scale and family character. Friendly, helpful owners.Good toilet facilities. In the nearby area you will find golf (18 holes), riding tracks, fishing and marked hiking trails. Separate section of the campsite for adults."
Travelling party: Couple
It’s so peaceful here. You could be anywhere in the world even though we are only 20 minutes from home. Even the birds were not awake when I stumbled around to the dog walk area for Dexter’s first loo break at 07:00. By 07:30 they are in full song. This site is lovely. Very pretty and the facilities are fab. Spotless clean. There is a separate ‘adults only section’ but we could not get on it as it is fully booked. Then there is a separate tent section, and the larger camp area for the rest of us. A few permanent campers are set up along the riverbank and perimeter area, with their massive awnings acting as living quarters. Most with a garden bench accessible to them.
The all important ‘dog walk’ is through some trees, past the tent/canvas only area, where there is a small meadow, which has a narrow path cut around the perimeter, but left ‘wild’ in the middle. I’m not sure why campsites do this. No self respecting dog owner would let their dog dive into the wild growth in the middle for fear of adders, or pot holes that could injure your pooch. Much better to have a completely mowed area, where the dogs can play fetch and have a good run about with a ball, or frisbee in Dexter’s case.
Unfortunately, to get to the river is not easy even though it’s literally a few metres, but the banks are fenced off, and if you want to have a paddle you will have to fight through the under growth. The park is well lit at night, around the road area.
It’s a fantastic park, but the owners are not overly enthusiastic with their welcome. Maybe they don’t need to be as it seems really popular, with plenty of long stay guests or repeaters. It’s also in a central position for many of the sites and activities on offer in this area.
